Birthday & Valentines

I have the blessing/curse of being born the day before Valentines. This year marked #38. Wow. Its going fast now. I don't feel it in some ways but my baby sometimes makes me feel even older! Technically, I COULD be his GRANDmother. Seems like a lot of people in this part of Texas, who are my age, have much older children. The day was nice. We got a SNOW DAY!!! School CANCELLED! It snowed almost 5 inches on Sunday (of course we made snow ice cream) and did not warm up a bit until noon, but it was weird b/c once it started it got to 56. Then the snow day seemed sort of silly! We took advantage of the melted snow and clear roads and met my MIL, SIL and her family and Trent for lunch at Pei Wei. One of my favorites!!! I got my usual Orange Peel Chicken, Mmmmm. That afternoon was spent doing my favorite things like laundry and cleaning ;) I DID however get to read a few chapters or my book while Levi was down for his nap. I am reading Redeeming Love, that my friend Jenelle lent me. MAN ITS SAD! I keep hearing its amazing and a life changer so I am keeping at it. Its made me want to get back into period books again too. I just may pick up my Little House series again when I am finished!

Trent was wonderful and hired a sitter and took me to eat at Rain Uptown. A bunch of my girl friends took me there for dinner last year and I had not been back since. Trent had not been at all so it was a real treat for us both. I felt like I was in a whole other town. Great food and cozy atmosphere. We went to a movie after ward adna saw Safe House. TWO MOVEIS IN ONE MONTH??? WHOAAAAA NELLY, I am getting all crazy!

It was a perfect day AND we were in bed by 10:30. We love our sleep. I was surprised to recieve a few texts and calls and Linnea even sent me a book I had been seriously looking into purchasing without even knowing it! Linnea is my friend that I have had since 1st grade. We are six days a part and have always celebrated our birthdays together, although now its through mail :) She NEVER forgets. Its pretty special to have a history like that with someone who always makes you feel good on your special day regardless of the number.

Valentines was CRAZY but good. This was the first year I have gotten valentines for my family, and look forward to making it traditon. They each got a bag-o-love this morning before school, and we are having a special Valentine dinner tonight after basketball practice of course! I got special Valentine plates, goblets, and even sparkling grape cider :) It seems rather appropriate to celebrate God's Love with them, since they have helped me to truly understand how HE feels.

VEGAS!

We met six other couples in Vegas Feb 2-6. Trent and I went down a day early and had a some time to ourselves. We walked about 3 miles off the strip Friday morning where we enjoyed an outdoor shopping area. It was a beautiful day and it was nice to have so much time just the two of us. If you know us at all you know that Trent does not mind shopping one bit. In fact its kind of more his thing than it is mind most of the time. I just don't do it very often. I did however make a run to the clearance rack at Target the day we left and got 3 pairs of pants for our trip at the odd price of $7.98!! A few shirts too at $5 a piece. I truely pride myself on finding cute stuff for under $10 and use it as a rule of thumb. We were able to continue that trend in Vegas :) Although one of my shirts did cost $12!!! BUT, it was actually a sweater. We also went to a movie there, The Gray. Not your feel good kind of movie AT ALL. I was thankful to just be at a movie. Not very often does that happen.

ANYWAYS- Everyone else arrived that night. We met them for dinner and visited awhile and then went to see Zumanity. It is a Cirque De Soliel production that was indeed amazing but VERY sexual. Glad I was with my husband to see it! The next day the girls and I headed to the same shopping area but by cab this time! SO nice to have uninterrupted conversation with these girls and really catch up. Like our old hang out days before children. We headed back that afternoon, caught a nap and dinner reservations that night. This is the one really good group picture above. We went dancing after, SO MUCH FUN!!!

We had a superbowl party at the sports resturant Sunday and had a blast. It was a wonderful very much needed get away for ALL of us.

crazy week

So I am having a hard time keeping up with this. I don't get to sit down at my computer for very long periods of time! Facebook was so much more convenient to look at while waiting on kids in the car various places or seated in front of a football game I could not care less about! Oh well.

So we (Trent and I) are leaving for Vegas tomorrow. Have not been in YEARS! Looking forward to getting away with my guy though for a few days and really excited to SLEEP!! BUT... before lots of prep work. I am doing a crazy amount of laundry, cleaning, and last minute errands. Thankfully, my parents are here and have been available to keep kids while I try to be productive.

We will be gone for four days. I always have this dance with guilt and pleasure about leaving. I definately need a break from kids. However I start missing them even before I am gone!!! I am getting better about leaving the older two but struggle with leaving the little one still, who will be TWO this very month!! I am sure it will be great for all parties concerned and my parents will get to soak them up! MANY pics to follow I am sure!

American Idol and Discipline...

I was not an early AI fan. I always liked the beginning when they are searching cities and then the finals between the top ten. Last year was the first time I watch an entire season. I really don't do a lot of television in general and always heckled reality television. Ironically my favorite show this past year (other than Parenthood of course) was The Sing Off!! WHAT AN INCREDIBLE SHOW! SOOO many talented people!! Anyways....

Me and the kids were headed to my oldest son's piano lessons after school today. I must say he is quite a musical little dude and has a lot more talent than me for sure! Well I guess most people are. He announced that when he turns 18 he will be heading to LA to where he plans to become famous. I said really, I thought it was New York?? Background: He has been a HUGE spiderman fan almost his whole 8 years, and this is how he knows about NYC and wants to be a citizen :) He informed me that yes he still plan on New York but that will be after he makes it big in Hollywood because that is his life long dream. I said simply, Okay buddy! I asked him what is so great about being famous? He said, because you get to be rich! I told him you can work hard and earn a lot of money without being famous and he re-itterated that its his dream. I said again, okay go for it. Inside, I was a little sad. I mean I want him to have dreams and try to reach them but I am sad that its not just playing great or singing great. Its that being famous is included in that. Something about that just does not sit right with me.

On a completely different subject I wanted to share with other people, assuming that maybe somebody out there besides my dad reads this and just never ever EVER leaves a comment, that I have found something that makes my children really think about how they are acting when they go into a full on ridiculous WHINE....Are you ready... wait for it... wait for it... TAKE THEIR PICTURE OR VIDEO them in the act. My daughter gets VERY embarassed when she sees herself and I have to say its been the more effective of the tactics I've used this year. I also bring my baby's toys out and place in front of my 6 and 8 year old when they are acting like the toddler should but doesn't :)

HOLIDAY weekend

My plan is just to keep it open as long as I can! Ha! We'll see how that goes! My family had a nice long weekend together. Dad surprised me with not only coming home early Friday, but also setting up a sitter and taking me on a much needed date! We went to Ruby Tequila's for appetizers and drinks and then across the street to the theater to see Sherlock Holmes. It was a great evening and we were home by 10!!

Saturday he let me sleep and got up with the kids until he had to get ready for a golf tournament. Sadly, he had to leave that early b/c of his back :(

Ty had his second basketball game ever and did very well, even made a basket! We are playing with Upward, a Christ-centered league to which I have been VERY impressed with! Meme and G came to the game which made him so excited! They were also a huge help with his crazy little brother!

We had a nice dinner together at home and then watched Alice and Wonderland together! We enjoyed a great service and class Sunday and then breakfast with Meme and G. It was a blustery windy day so we stayed in our jammies ALL day. Today is a holiday but none of the kids seem to understand that means you don't have to get up early! Every other day they DON'T want to get up! Figures.

The plan for today is the movies with Meme and G and Levi and I will probably make a run to the store. LOVE weekends like this! Other than the fact that my man is hurting. Surgery is looking more and more inevitable, although he is VERY resistant to it.

I always LOVE Christmas with T's family. The first time I sat in shock. I am an only child with only two cousins who have always lived FAR away, and the noise and chaos was new to me! I absolutely love it. I love seeing all the cousins play and eat with each other and one of my most favorite things is G's fire. Their new house has one you can literally almost get in, and I about did! Meme always makes EVERYTHING and from scratch. WOW. That is just the only description that is fitting, WOW!

Christmas

Christmas Eve we let them each open a gift from mom and Dad. Ty got a baseball calendar/scripture statue, Levi got some baby dinosaurs and Olivia got a Barbie Learning tablet. The next morning they awoke to the stockings filled and tree surrounded!

Breakfast and the Ft.Worth Zoo

We went to breakfast at a local place and got to see Santa, well sort of!

Ft.Worth Zoo!!! Thursday before Christmas, everyone must have still been shopping= YEA FOR US!! No crowds, up front parking and in the mid 50's, a beautiful precious memory!

I HATE snakes..... much braver than their Mamma!

Pop bought them each a stick with birdfeed on it, the neatest thing to be able to see them up close.

We spent a LONG time in here!!! SO neat!!

Thank goodness for that glass... that Tiger was pacing!

Onto the next one!

Levi and Pop!!

I LOVE this picture of them looking at each other!!

Elephants!!

LOVE THIS GIRL!

First Day in Ft.Worth, the week before Christmas

The first trip by myself with three children and a dog from Lubbock to Dallas.............well it was pretty smooth! We made two stops going which is not real bad! We did not get off until about 12:30 and made it by 6:30. We got our stuff out and then headed across the street to the church I grew up in. They were having a sort of fesitval for Christmas. It has been going on for many years but this was the first time we were able to go and it will now be a tradition!!! Complete with pony rides, bounce houses, petting zoo, LIVE Nativity, blacksmith workshop, campfire and live country praise music as well as a hayride down our (my parent's) street to look at Christmas lights! First off we ran into my bestie and her family! Cannot believe we did not discuss these plans but were SO blessed to spend this time together! The kids had a BLAST! Holly and her family were kind enough to take my kids on the hayride since we would have had to wait quite a while for the rest of us to fit and since it was around 9 by this time, Levi would not have made it! His favorite was the animals, Ty's was the Blacksmith where Pop got him a melted nail/knife, and Livi's was the s'mores at the camp fire! I had the pleasure of seeing so many people that I love and had not seen in so long. What a blessing it was to attend!
